Rating System
In 2005 we sent over one thousand surveys to food processors and manufacturers in Australia asking them about their practices and attitudes towards food irradiation.
We then rated them according to their company policy to make your choices at the supermarket easier.
GREEN - Companies with policy against irradiation. Also certified organic and bidynamic products.
|
|---|
ORANGE - Companies commited to removing or avoiding irradiation in their production chain. |
RED - Companies with no policy or a policy in favour of irradiation. They may not be currently irradiating products, but have no policy or commitment to avoiding irradiation in their products or ingredients. |
We have also included a listing of non-respondents do you can see which companies we contacted.
"Our recent national survey found Australian consumers are highly motivated by the health, naturalness, animal welfare and environmental attributes of food. They are also concerned about the long term risks associated with industrialised food production and processing techniques, including the use of agrichemicals, genetic engineering and food irradiation.
The irradiation of food represents the antithesis to everday Australians' visions for a safe, halth and sustainable food system, and as such we can expect there to be little or no consuemr acceptance of irradiated food"
